The Ski Report

As I mentioned last week, I had only been skiing once in about 4 years so I was a little apprehensive about hitting the slopes again in North Conway over the weekend. But, armed with my new goggles and helmet, I successively navigated Mount Cranmore without any spills or perilous moments.

On Friday when we were shopping in the outlet village, we came upon a display of old ski lifts. This gondola was in operation at Wildcat Mountain from 1957 to 1999 and was the first lift of its type in the United States:

It is very tiny and rusty and looks like it might just fall apart at any minute . . . and it didn't look much different when I rode it with my dad in 1998. I still distinctly remember asking him: "Is this thing safe??" before getting into it. His response was: "I heard they're tearing this down, it's a part of skiing history - we have to ride it. Also, we have to get to the top of the mountain don't we?" And we did. How the two of us fit inside in all our puffy ski gear I have no idea :)
